Safety and the patient’s sense of security are important for ensuring that lifting is performed in a satisfactory manner. The degree of amputation and the lifting situation also determine the choice of method. Liko has several methods for lifting leg amputees.
Most of our slings can be used for lifting leg amputees. The choice depends largely on the degree of amputation and the type of lifting situation (e.g., bed-wheelchair or to/from toilet). Assess/test whether the sling’s leg supports can be connected under each thigh separately or parallel/overlapped under both thighs. Note the risk of the patient sliding out of the sling if the thigh stump/stumps are short. Note, also, the possible risk of the patient falling forwards if his/her centre of gravity and balance are affected.
Here, we suggest different models according to the degree of leg amputation.
¹) Model with separated leg supports: We recommend application with leg supports parallel/overlapped; extension loops may be necessary. First, (closest to the body) the leg support is applied on the amputated side.
